Timber construction is becoming increasingly popular. Thanks to changing general conditions and increasing environmental awareness, the size of timber constructions being built, also in an urban context, is getting bigger. Leading edge projects can of course already be found in the traditional timber construction regions. Timber construction is, at the same time, an efficient method of CO2 storage – as long as the material is obtained using responsible methods of cultivation, and from a source that is not too far away. DETAIL 1+2/2012 presents a broad range of modern timber constructions: from a simple holiday house to a residential group home in a pragmatic mixed material design, from computer-aided development of a research pavilion to a modern interpretation of a bath house, from a commercial to a higher education building. The issue contains a special article dedicated to surface treatment and moisture proofing.
