Architecture in Germany is distinguished by less spectacular qualities that often manifest themselves in meticulously designed and detailed buildings for everyday use – small housing schemes and schools, kindergartens and church developments. The important aspects in this context are utility, durability and, increasingly, sustainability. Perhaps the occasional glittering star might serve to put architecture in the limelight, but ultimately, preference should be given to solidity and careful individual planning, rather than off-the-peg, stock solutions.
