Workplace with a view: Freshly refurbished Sea Containers House in London
Architects: BDG + Matheson Whiteley Architects
Location: London, Großbritannien
The British architectural studio BDG was responsible for the redesign and transformation work involved. As a result, lower floors of the building now offer 20,000 square metres of workspace for a group of ten media companies, while the uppermost two storeys are open for shared amenities, such as an amphitheatre for 200 people, a café, bistro, private dining area and a roof terrace offering views over to St. Paul's Cathedral. The new interiors have been furnished with items by Resident, a New Zealand label.
As the architect Jason Whiteley states, "The rationale behind the project was to develop interiors suitable for a broad range of activities – from gigantic meetings involving up to 170 people to intimate little spaces for concentrated work. This reflects the collaborative and open work ethos of future-oriented organisations such as Ogilvy. The furniture underpins this concept, with the chosen items by Resident being suited for both informal, flexible working practices as well as classical work environments."
