Pump it up. Inflatable bath tub by Su Pin Chia

deflated bathtub

Walk-in bathtubs tend to be ugly things. Functional rather than aesthetically considered, they are seldom used other than for necessity. The tallented Su Pin Chia has challenged that notion with this design for a semi inflatable bathtub that acts as a walk-in shower, a bathtub and a jacuzzi.

Half of the bathtub is hard acrylic and forms the floor and a shell that houses the air pump and other equipment. The pump that drives the jacuzzi, also inflates the bathtub and would be operated at the touch of a button. It is an interesting concept and throws down the challenge to designers of those geriatric tubs.

Su Pin Chia won a Red Dot design Award.
