Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Kvadrat Showroom, Michel Giesbrecht

Copenhagen showroom by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

A special approach to the materiality of textiles and rugs made by Kvadrat characterises the showroom designed by the Bouroullec brothers, two designers who have created a number of visionary products for the Kvadrat brand before, including the Clouds system, various fabrics and the showrooms in Stockholm. In the case of the Copenhagen flagship store, spatial flexibility was of particular importance to enable the weave, weight, quality and transparency of the individual fabrics to be placed in the best possible light.

The showroom is flanked on three sides by large windows offering views of Copenhagen's industrial harbour.  Two brick walls painted white separate the interior into three areas: an airy gallery space with office desks, a section with shelving for fabrics and rugs, and a conference room with kitchen and reception. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec also designed a hanging system for the showroom. The customised system in anodised aluminium makes it possible to clear large areas altogether or to decorate them with differing installations involving fabrics and rugs, thus transforming the showroom as required.
