Like a Ship: Hotel on Tenerife
Architect: Leonardo Omar
Interior Design: MKV Design
Location: Avenida Virgen de Guadalupe 21, 38679 Playa La Enramada, la Caleta , Costa Adeje, Tenerife (ES)
Architect Leonardo Omar, who is a native of Tenerife, and MKV Design London (interior design) have succeeded with a grand design in the form of a luxury ocean liner. The hotel features innovative architecture combined with an avant-garde interior inspired by the island’s landscape, known for volcanoes and the vivid underwater world of the sea. Geometric shapes give the gleaming white building a dynamic look; a continuous roof construction connects two separate complexes.
A further architectural highlight is the lobby. Over several levels, this area evokes associations of the famous Cueva del Viento (cave of the wind): Europe’s longest lava cave, which is located in the north part of the island. With cliff walls, lagoons and effect lighting, the reception offers a spectacular ambience.
On the other hand, a tranquil atmosphere reigns in the hotel rooms. Panoramic windows allow the indoors and outdoors to meld. One challenge in this project was conforming to the Canary Islands’ law concerning the protection of the sky (ley del cielo), which aims to prevent light pollution. Precisely directed beams of light and built-in laser lamps allow the hotel to meet the legal requirements in a subtle lighting concept for the outdoor area of the complex. Thanks to this, the stars in the night sky shine all the brighter over the rooftop terrace of the five-star resort, which offers a front-row seat to study the architecture of the heavens.
