Norway, Trondheim, Unstructured

Featuring Trondheim: New Unstructured web-magazine published

In its first edition on a single city, the Unstructured web-magazine explores the coastal city of Trondheim and the West Atlantic coast of Norway. Trondheim is home to a new wave of Norwegian practices, including TYIN Tegnestue, Brendeland + Kristoffersen, Rever og Drage, Rallar and Nøysom arkitekter. Many of these have emerged from a vibrant culture of self-build and “do-it-yourself” culture, which is a principle theme within the edition.

Unstructured Trondheim includes features on one of the city’s most successful practices, PIR II, alongside small studios exploring experimental housing and reports on the city’s sustainable research agenda. Projects featured in the web magazine range from Svartlamoen, the unique experimental ecological building district, to NTNU’s flagship Zero Emission Buildings research.

The edition also casts the net wider up and down the west coast. There’s in-depth feature on Sami Rintala, based in the northern city of Bodø, plus Rintala and TYIN’s new Fleinvaer music performance centre. Martin Beverfjord contributes two features; a reflection on his own architectural practice, Rever og Drage, and an interview with Jan Godal, Norway’s leading timber and boat building authority. The Norwegian Tourist Routes, a significant architectural presence along the entire Western, Atlantic is profiled, along with its artist in residence, Knut Wold, and pioneer NTR architect, Børre Skodvin from Jensen & Skodvin Architects.

Contributors include Hans Skotte, Anne Sigrid Norby, Martin Beverfjord, Nina Haarsakker, and Steffen Wellinger.
