Exemplary extension in Frankfurt: Stylepark's new building by NKBAK
Client: Stylepark AG
Location: Brönnerstraße 22, 60313 Frankfurt am Main (DE)
The extension by NKBAK Architects merges in practically seamlessly with the heritage-listed Peterskirchhof cemetery wall, with the new building's irregular façade in hand-moulded brick forming a visual continuation of the adjacent structure. The massing of the residential and office building by the Frankfurt studio was largely determined by circulation, natural lighting and constructional fire protection requirements.
The ground floor focusses on the concept of spatial experience, with three open-plan work areas to foster internal communication and inter-departmental collaboration. A private staff room, a central coffee kitchen and two courtyard available for breaks in the fresh air provide enhanced amenity value. Window openings in three different directions admit sufficient daylight and create highly differing light moods.
Both of the two upper storeys accommodate a small living unit, each with its own roof terrace. Spatial articulation is mainly effected through differing floor levels and ceiling heights, creating a generous spatial impression in the apartments despite the limited floor space amounting to 44 and 60 square metres respectively.
