The work of mortals: Collages from Google satellite images by Jenny Odell.

Aeroplanes.A penetrating view into our own humanity is given by satellite images of the earth that humans were never really meant to see. That is the proposition put forward in these thought provoking images produced by artist Jenny Odell in her Satellite Collections series of digital prints 2009-2011.

The artist has built a collection of snippets from Google satellite images that show objects such as cooling towers, boats, car parks and aeroplanes. The images raise questions of who we are, and what we do from the abstract perspective afforded us from space. In the process she has created beautiful abstractions of sometimes banal objects we take for granted.

Nuclear cooling towers.

Spotys stadia.

Sports fields.

Ships.

Gratitude to Taxi for drawing Jenny Odell's work to my attention.
