The Architecture of Pleasure: Sauna by H3T architekti
Client: Jaroslav Fragner Gallery
Architect: H3T architekti
Location: Prague (CZ)
Sauna has a specific architectural typology: it is a sculptural object that can be seen as architecture, or perhaps as art. Experimenting with the object allows an investigative look at individual fundamental themes in terms of architectural practice, such as type and function.
In cooperation with the Jaroslav Fragner art gallery, the architects have produced an exhibition and installation that put the aesthetics of sauna culture under the microscope. A wooden structure in the main hall of the gallery divides the room into two exhibition areas; a further exhibition space is located in a pavilion.
In the courtyard, under the open sky, H3T architekti have built a two-storey public sauna. The process of relaxation is experienced here in a dialogue between the sauna structure and one’s own body. The exhibition addresses the thousand-year-old tradition with other projects as well.
