Sustainable soccer: Design by Zaha Hadid Architects for new stadium
Builder: Forest Green Rovers
Architects: Zaha Hadid Architects
Location: Stroud, Großbritannien
As Jim Heverin, director at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) states: " We are very proud to have been selected to design the new home for Forest Green Rovers. The club's heritage, ambition and vision reflect our own, combining the latest material research and construction techniques with new design approaches to build an ecologically sustainable architecture".
And the stadium will indeed be sustainable. Primarily involving sustainably sourced timber, the construction work and the building itself will have a very small CO2 footprint. The football stadium will be the first where practically every element will be out of wood, from the main structure to the seats and the spectator terraces.
The roof will be covered with a transparent membrane, lending the stadium a filigree look that is to enable it to merge in with the surrounding landscape. As such the stadium will be the centrepiece of Ecotricity Eco Park, where further sports grounds and a green technology business park are proposed on a further 40 hectares.
