ecoBirdy: Unique Children’s Furniture Made of Recycled Plastic

The new furniture brand known as ecoBirdy presented a new collection of ecologically designed children’s furniture at the Maison & Objet design fair in Paris in January 2018. After two years of work on the sustainable recycling of plastic toys the firm, whose headquarters are located in Antwerp, have created a children’s chair, a table, a storage box and a lamp. All these pieces are made exclusively of recycled plastic.

Vanessa Yuan and Joris Vanbriel, the founders of ecoBirdy, investigated the entire life cycle of plastic, right from the collection and processing of old plastic toys to the design and production of new pieces of furniture. For their first collection, they have used only waste plastic from Europe. Thanks to careful sorting and cleaning, they can guarantee that the recycled material is free of noxious substances. The furniture, which has soft edges and smooth surfaces, is stable and easy to care for. The manufacture of these objects, which are characterized by their flecked surfaces, is done to a large extent by hand.
