Cleverly Clumsy: Roca Lamp by Atelier A4

The Roca lamp is a type of toy: the shade is a simple spherical body equipped with an electric cable and switch. The lamp has no particular area of use; it can be placed on a nightstand, a bookcase, a table or the floor. Roca is available in many different colours and textures. What is the same for all models is the material they are made of, which gives them their special charm: recycled paper. The somewhat awkward object has a diameter of about 22 cm. The mass of each hand-made item varies from lamp to lamp. After all, every lamp is unique.

Romanian designer Adina Segal, who established Atelier A4 in 2012, is researching the potential of recycled paper as a material for various design objects. The lack of high-quality production facilities and raw materials in Romania has led to exciting experiments with the available means, such as paper. Along with other products by young Romanian designers, these cleverly clumsy objects were introduced earlier this year at the international interiors show in Cologne.
