17 Screens by Ronan & Erwin Bouroullec

A Floating Work of Magic: 17 Screens by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

One of the total of four exhibitions of the work by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, which has the title 17 Screens, took place at the Frac art and design centre. The »experimental and atmospheric« modular systems of ceramic, glass, aluminum, fabric and wood are, admittedly, more than mere artistic experiments, although they have no function. They are about constructive exploration: the first step tested various principles, materials and colours. When possible, the designers link these to their experiments with the Algues partition elements, which are both components of interior design and decorative pieces. Moreover, they can be joined to become mesh-like structures of various densities.

Each of the screens on show here connects a simple construction with the latest three-dimensional printing technology – for instance, the screen made of glass pipes, which is held together with elastic ceramic elements. Though they actually portray a poetic look at permeability and transparency, these objects create a striking effect primarily with their material qualities.
