Metal Mesh Facades

Today, a great selection of diaphanous metal materials is available to architects, ranging from perforated sheets, gratings and expanded mesh to net-like, woven and knitted fabrics. The desire to achieve greater transparency in building has been met by glass. Now planners and designers are seeking ways to create building skins with a range of effects between transparency and opaqueness. Not only simple products from the realms of industrial building and scaffolding are being used for this purpose; more sophisticated elements have also been developed, as can be seen in many prestigious modern structures. Similarly, the ongoing improvement of manufacturing techniques is resulting in materials and products with special properties that offer new scope for design, especially in the context of building skins.
