Is Masonry out of Fashion?
It is said that any modern architect who designs masonry buildings is unlikely to be found at the cutting edge of architectural creativity. When one carefully considers jointing, however; dark, light, thick, overflowing or recessed, one can see how many, almost innumerable, alternatives can in fact be achieved. The interaction and interplay of masonry blocks and their jointing can create something different and new almost every time. One realises that a down to earth, modular construction system, based on only two elements, can produce an almost infinite range of possibilities while still retaining an unmistakable, distinctive appearance.
