Building with Bamboo

One of the world’s oldest building materials is presently enjoying a renaissance in the western world. In Asia, bamboo is a much more important building and construction material than timber; here in the west, however, its characteristics and potential are almost unknown. Although lack of knowledge abounds, the interest in this building material is steadily increasing; basic information is presented here on the properties of bamboo and its potential as a building material.
