Our Favourites: Three light-flooded sports halls in Spain

A translucent campus extension in Madrid, a green sports centre in Barcelona and a sports hall in the Balearic Islands create inviting spaces for sports activities.

Bright sports pavilion: Campus extension in Madrid

As an extension of the Francisco de Vitoria University campus in Pozuelo, Madrid, architect Alberto Campo Baeza has planned a sports and learning complex in brilliant white. The building, which is made of glass-fibre reinforced concrete, opens up with varying degrees depending on the compass direction and the sunlight. With its translucent façade sides, it looks like a luminous cube.

At first, this community on Ibiza wanted only to cover their sports field in order to provide shelter from rain and sun. In the end, the architects from MCEA developed the idea for a perforated sports hall of masonry work which offers more comfort yet maintains the outdoor character of the complex.
