Rethinking Supporting Structures: Conceptual Design of Structures

From 16 - 18 September in Attisholz, Switzerland, ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne will collaborate with the Structural Concrete Federation fib in hosting a symposium devoted to the conceptual design of structures. For it is precisely here, at the intersection of architecture and engineering, that the secret of outstanding buildings lies: when the planning team involved in this vital formative phase succeeds in developing a conclusive overall concept. The symposium hopes to raise awareness in all those involved in planning and foster dialogue among the teams who collaborate in designing and erecting buildings.

Experts such as Bill Baker, Mike Schlaich, Christian Kerez, Jürg Conzett and Eli Mosayebi will be there to enhance the discussion and exchange of ideas in individual panels.

This year, the symposium will take place in hybrid form. It will be possible to participate both on location (probably) and online. The event will take place in English. On location, an exhibition and sightseeing tours of historical and contemporary projects will round out the program.
