Stadium roof made of flexible composite materials
The roof of the Rostov Arena in Rostov-on-Don consists of 46 segments separated by steel arches and fitted with Flexlight Xtrem TX30-IV from Serge Ferrari. These are braced by a system of steel cables attached to pillars in the outer wall.
Populous designed the Rostov Arena in Rostov-on-Don for the Football World Cup in Russia. For the roof, the office chose flexible composite materials. This made it possible to create curved roof structures reminiscent of the meanders of the Don River, protecting all four grandstands from snow and rain. The roof consists of 46 segments separated by steel arches and fitted with Flexlight Xtrem TX30-IV from Serge Ferrari. The segments are braced by a system of steel cables attached to pillars in the outer wall. The robust membrane withstands high snow and wind loads and is therefore suitable for the local climate.
Flexlight Xtrem TX30-IV is a flexible composite material from Serge Ferrari that has been specially developed for a long service life and an aesthetic appearance in complex construction projects. The fabric is prestressed from all sides and is therefore dimensionally stable. In addition, the fabric is equipped with a very resistant coating and the Crosslink PVDF surface cross-linking.
