Less is ... Cheaper: Studio Building in Neuaigen

With their transformation of a freight depot into an office and retail complex, Neutelings Riedijk and Bureau Bouwtechniek demonstrate that even historical buildings can be refurbished to be energy-efficient. The central esplanade, inspired by the Ramblas of Barcelona, oozes Mediterranean flair in the often-gloomy Belgian climate.

A Convex Light Body: Winter Visual Arts Center in Lancaster

The historical campus of Lancaster’s Franklin & Marshall College is home to many old trees. To a significant extent, these characterize the green ambience of the campus grounds. Moreover, they were an important source of inspiration in the design phase for the new Winter Visual Arts Center. The curvy, convex façade responds directly to the radial shape of the treetops by carving out space for them.
