Our Favourites: Three Projects Using Various Types of Shingles

We present you three convincing solutions in the use of shingles: a white-clad hotel in southern Germany, a glazed conference building in the Czech Republic, and a residential building clad with wooden shingles in Vorarlberg, Austria, prove that both traditional and innovative materials can be considered for shingles.

Wooden Building in Bridal Attire: Hotel Bergamo in Ludwigsburg

Hotel Bergamo, situated vis-à-vis the Marstall Center in Ludwigsburg, is the first carbon-neutral building in the city. Yet only at second glance does the edifice designed by Von M Architects reveal itself to be built almost solely of timber.

Client: Fedor Schoen GmbH
Architecture: VON M (Dennis Mueller, Matthias Siegert)
Structural engineerign: Merz Kley Partner
Location: Bauhofstraße 4, 71634 Ludwigsburg (DE)

Veil of Glass Shingles: Conference Building for Lasvit in Nový Bor

At the Lasvit headquarters in Nový Bor, OV Architekti combine Czech glass art and architecture. The roof and façades of the new building are cladded with large-format, translucent glass shingles.

Client: Lasvit, s.r.o.
Architecture: ov architekti s.r.o.
Locaton: Nový Bor (CZ)

Clad with Wood: Haus Summer by Innauer-Matt Architekten

Above the village of Weiler, Haus Summer by Innauer-Matt Architekten adorns a small plateau. In keeping with local building methods using wood, a weather-beaten farmhouse has been replaced with a newly erected single-family home.

Architecture: Innauer Matt Architekten
Location: Weilers, Vorarlberg (AT)
