Our Favourites: Three Inspiring Co-working Spaces

We present three modern workspaces that have convinced our editorial team in every respect: the transformation of an office building into a multifunctional little city near Amsterdam, a place for creatives in Prenzlauer Berg, and a minimalist coworking space in Bilbao.

More than Work: B.Amsterdam by NEXT architects

With B.Amsterdam, NEXT architects have revitalized the old IBM building on the outskirts of Amsterdam. In contrast to its single-function neighbours, NEXT have conceptualized this office building as a small city which offers diverse opportunities for sports, events and gastronomy as well as a place to work. The cherry on top is the rooftop restaurant, which has its own garden for herbs and vegetables.

Digital Artisans in a Rear Yard Outbuilding: Remise for Startups in Prenzlauer Berg

Living in the front and rear buildings and working on-the-spot in the Remise outbuilding: the classic layout of Berlin’s tenement buildings ensured a thorough mix of uses. Taking up the tried- and-tested idea of working quarters in rear yards, Jan Wiese Architects and Ralf Wilkening have created a sunny co-working space for graphic artists, programmers, planners and other creatives in the Prenzlauer Berg district.

Not Just for Work: Babelstudio’s Co-working Space

In designing Oslo Cowork, the Spanish architects Babelstudio of Bilbao have created an office that enables co-working and activities in a very small space. A compact timber mezzanine takes advantage of the room’s height to perfect effect. Simplicity of design and attention to detail round off the minimalist interior in befitting manner.
