Healthy and Light: Clinic Building by Localarchitecture

Against a picturesque backdrop, La Corbière fits in between an existing wellness hotel and a small church. The Swiss planners designed a lively structure which appears to extend feelers into the surrounding area in the form of several tracts. Three patios lie between these tracts. A semicircular outdoor area marks the access to the new clinic building. Two further courtyards open towards the lake and the nearby fields. The façades feature an intriguing interplay of private space and openness. Most of the faces, above all on the lower level, are fully glazed and offer a view of the landscape. In front of the façades of La Corbière, an airy shell of vertical wooden poles extends over portions of the windowpanes.

The interior spaces are characterized by curves and a connection to the outdoors. The extensive use of wood and selected materials give the clinic building a sleek elegance without forgoing hominess. The basement level, which also opens onto the landscape thanks to the slight slope of the land, is home to the spacious spa zone, whose highlight is a swimming pool with a vaulted exposed-concrete ceiling. A meeting room completes the basement. On the ground floor, the individual tracts accommodate functions such as the cafeteria, restaurant, library, lounge and treatment rooms. From the lobby and reception, a sculptural spiral staircase leads to the upper level, which has 41 rooms for the patients at the health centre. These rooms face both the lake as well as lovingly planted, fragrant gardens. Private balconies invite patients to enjoy the magnificent perspective.
