Combination Glass Types: Between Functionalism and External Effect - "Street Appeal" as a Complementary Factor

In the debate about democratic versus traditional forms of building, the use of glass as a construction material was a controversial issue. Today, architects and planners are experimenting with all kinds of materials, with glass assuming its proper place among them. The article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of transparent building skins: a maximum of daylight is weighed against possible overheating in summer and thermal losses in winter. As a result, coated types of glass are assuming an ever-greater significance. As well as possessing a broad range of physical properties in terms of solar and thermal protection, their aesthetic qualities are also of central importance.
