Stick up: Spike chair by Alexander Lervik.

It looks like it was inspired by a Yogi’s nail bed. But it was an opening of the heavens that induced a brain storm, and in a flash, brighter than a lightening strike, the Spike Chair was conceived.

It was on a trip to the Philippines that a Swedish designer, Alexander Lervik, was caught in a rainstorm so intense, that it felt like an opaque sheet of water. In the slashing rain he saw the form of the chair.

The chair is made from steel tubes welded to a three millimetre baseplate. Slotted into the tubes are ash staves, milled to finish flush with the steel.

It is safe to sit on, once you have spotted its a chair.
