Round the houses:Chinese home stranded in a sea of tarmac.

Stranded house - front.

In the West we are often led to believe that the Chinese state will not allow anything to stand in the way of progress. However, it appears that the authorities in Wenling, Zhejiang, China, have gone out of their way on this occasion.

When the local authorities wanted to build a new road to the railway station Luo Baogn and his wife were unimpressed with the level of compensation being offered to them as they did not think they could rebuild their five storey house. When they persistently refused to leave, the road was simply built around them!

Not a convincing result for anybody… unless Mr Baogn can find a way to turn his home into a tourist attraction.
