The architects consider their design a product of the site’s spatial qualities, in particular its flat vast horizons, and a product of the physical material of the site, the earth itself. Read more

Cast Thicket is the winning proposal designed by yo-cy for an advanced structures competition run by the University of Texas. It is a study in tensile concrete. The aim was to make a heavy material look lacy, thin and delicate, so inverting the perception of concrete as a carved monolith. Read more
Beautiful knives made from solid wood, each handcrafted in Kyoto, raises interesting questions both cultural and practical. The range is known as Fusion, a reference to the cultural influences exerted on the Italian designer, Andrea Ponti, whilst working in Japan. Read more

A touch of eco-chic is the theme behind this concept from the Moscow design collective, Lebedev Studio. The dial of the wristwatch is made from a delicate section of a young tree. The rings of each season’s growth marking the passing of time, as years. The hands, made from splinters of wood, mark the passing of hours and minutes.
