Brain Activity at the Haywood Gallery, London, is the first major UK show of the artist David Shrigley. It is an exhibition of closely linked drawings and sculptures that examine the human condition with his characteristic humour. Shrigley is interested in the ‘big themes’ such as death and misery as he believes these have the most potential to be comic. Read more

Providing an intimate relationship with the artistic work of Clyfford Still was the intention of Allied Works Designs when they won an international competition to design a single artist museum in Denver, Colorado. The journey from city to landscaped forecourt, to building and then to gallery is seen as a way of preparing the visitor – helping create the right frame of mind in order to experience the artworks. Installed on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, A Room For London is part of the 2012 Olympic year cultural celebrations. The proposal is for a boat perched on the roof appearing as though stranded after a great flood. The idea, developed by David Kohn Architects in collaboration with Fiona Banner, evolved from travel narratives and in particular the ‘Heart of Darkness’, the novella by Joseph Conrad whose hero set sail from London on his journey to Africa.
