One of this week’s posts introduced an exhibition of Gerrit Rietveld’s work at the Vitra Design Museum. This got me wondering how De Stijl might have developed had a different kind of rationalist re-imagined some of the designs of that period.

Although I am not suggesting there is any particular similarity of appearance with objects from De Stijl and Invisible City’s INCUNABULAR range of furniture designed by Simon Moorhouse, the thought experiment is intriguing. Read more

The Yongsan Business District in Seoul has no intention of being eclipsed by any other Asian CBD. Perhaps it is the fear of eclipse itself that is driving the procurement of some impressive landmark buildings in the city. I featured BIG’s design for a residential complex a couple of weeks ago, today, it is the turn for a closer look at the evocatively named Dancing Dragons twin towers, designed by the Chicago based outfit Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. On peak form: Exhibition of Zaha’s work in Hong Kong.

The Peak Project that famously launched the stratospheric career of Zaha Hadid has been revisited with a new series of paintings recently completed by the architect and artist. Zaha famously won the original Peak Competition when she was a student so it will be interesting to see what, if anything, the intervening years have added. Read more

Paul de Ruiter Architects has won an invited competition that gives the practice an opportunity to institutionalise that eternal search. The form will be an architectural one, located on the Brouwers Dam in the Grevelingen area of the Holland. Will the building become an new archetype? Read more

Tasty treats: Arnham Station Central platforms by UN Studios.

By way of update, UN Studios have release some images of the central platforms of their Arnham Station project. Arnham station is where several high speed routes to Germany converge, and has seen a steady increase in passenger numbers in recent times. The canopies are one of the first stages of the masterplan, and provide an exciting glimpse of what is to come. Read more
